2009 Scholarship Guidelines

Eligibility
Amateurs, Juniors or anyone currently attending or planning to attend an accredited University, College, or Trade School

Selection Committee
The Selection Committee shall be made up of the KQHA Officers and Board of Directors

Selection Process
Applicants who have not completed at least 1 semester of college/trade school at the time of their application is reviewed, must submit a copy of the most recent high school, trade school or college grades.

Applicants submitting their 1st application after having completed one or more semesters of college will be evaluated on the basis of both their high school and college records.

Applicants for renewal of their scholarship will be evaluated on the basis of their college record from the time the first grant was awarded through the time pending application is reviewed by the Selection Committee. A 2.5 overall grade point average (GPA) must be maintained. Should any single semester GPA drop below 2.5, the Selection Committee may decide not to renew the scholarship.

Applicant must be enrolled as a full time student in an accredited University, College or Trade School in the year of applying for the scholarship.

Initial scholarship request, all four pages of the application must be filled in completely.

Renewing scholarship requests, only page 1 of the application and college transcript are required.

Applicants must have at least 2 and not more than 4 letters of recommendation submitted on their behalf. Required letters are: 1 from a KQHA member, 1 from a High School Principal/Counselor (if not previously in college) or University/College/Trade School advisor. Additional sources could be Officers, Directors of the State Quarter Horse Association, 4-H, FFA, Civic Leaders, etc.

A recent photograph of the applicant must accompany all applications. Photographs should be 3”x5” and include only the head and shoulders of the applicant.

Individuals are eligible for a maximum of four years.

Applicants must be a current member of KQHA and also a member in the previous year.

Scholarship
KQHA Board of Directors will determine the amount of funds available for scholarship(s) in a given year.

The Selection Committee will determine the number and amount of scholarships to be awarded.

Applicant(s) being awarded a scholarship will be notified as soon as possible after the Selection Committee makes their selection(s).

Payment will be mailed after Scholarship Chairperson, Ann Marie McDermott, receives a confirmation of enrollment.

If an applicant is awarded a scholarship but does not attend school, they will be required to return the amount of the scholarship and will not be eligible for a scholarship the following year.

Applications must be postmarked on or before July 31, 2009.
